Am I eligible to apply for a Novobanco account remotely?
You will need to meet the following criteria and provide the required documents to open a bank account with Novobanco remotely.
If you do not meet all the requirements below, unfortunately, we won’t be able to assist with opening an account for you.
Step 1: Check Eligibility
To open an account remotely, you must meet both eligibility requirements below:

| Financial Eligibility | Option 1: Monthly gross income between €3,500 and €4,999, and at least €35,000 in savings or liquid assets - What type of savings are acceptable? Option 2: Monthly gross income of €5,000 or more, no savings required |
Step 2: Prepare the Required Documents
You’ll need the following documents to apply:
- Portuguese NIF (Portuguese Tax Number) - Order a NIF here
- Passport
- Proof of Foreign tax identification number - What kind of Foreign Tax Identification Number document can I submit?
- Proof of Address - What can I use as proof of Address for Novobanco?
- Proof of Income - What can I use as proof of income for Novobanco?
- Income must be in a currency that is recognized by the Bank of Portugal

Please note that the bank may request additional information and documents aside from those listed above.
Step 3: Ensure your Documents Meet Novobanco's Criteria
Your documents must satisfy the following criteria:
- Original PDFs or high-quality scanned documents only. Documents must be submitted in PDF format.
- No shadows or light reflections
- All text is legible

- No redactions or blacked-out information.
- Must be valid and follow the date of issue requirements below:
- Passport - Not expired
- Proof of Address and Proof of Income - Issued within the last 6 months
- Proof of Tax Return - Issued within the last 12 months
- Proof of SSN / TIN Card - Does not typically have a set expiry date
- Your full name (given name + surname) must match the name on your passport.
- No abbreviations, nicknames, or initials
- Your documents must be in English, Portuguese, Spanish, or French.
