How to update the address on your NIF to another non-Portuguese address
This is for you if:
- you have a NIF
- you are not yet a Portuguese tax resident
- you would like to update the address on your NIF to another non-Portuguese/non-EU address

There are times when you would need to update the address on your NIF to another non-Portuguese/non-EU address. This article will tell you how to submit a request to the tax office to update the address on your NIF.
Instructions
STEP 1:
Log in using your NIF and password.
STEP 2:
On the search bar, type "Atendimento e-balcão" and click on the search button
STEP 3:
From the results, look for Atendimento e-balcão and click ACEDER on the right side.
STEP 4:
This page is where you can find all the open tickets/requests you've made to the tax office. Click on REGISTAR NOVA QUESTAO.
STEP 5:
Under Imposto ou Area, choose REGISTO CONTRIBUINTE.
Under Tipo de Questao, choose IDENTIFIC
Under Questao, choose ALTERAÇAO MORADA/SINGULARES
And then under Alguma destas responde as suas duvidas, click NAO.
STEP 6:
You can now fill in the form to open a ticket/request to the tax office:
- Assuntom - Subject
" Alteraçao Morada no NIF"
Translation: Change Address in the NIF - Mensagem - message
"Prezado(a), bom dia!
Espero que esteja bem.
Solicito a alteração do endereço no meu NIF para [insert your new address here]. Em anexo encontra-se a minha prova de morada.
Muito obrigado pela sua assistência e tenha um bom dia. "
Translation:
Dear Sir, good morning!
I hope you are well.
I request to change the address on my NIF to [insert your new address here]. Attached is my proof of address.
Thank you very much for your assistance and have a nice day. - Selecione o ficheiro a enviar - select your proof of address attachment. This might help - What can I use as Proof of Address?
After filling out the fields, click REGISTAR QUESTAO.
STEP 7:
After submitting your request to the tax office, kindly check back in on your account in about 24-48 hours for a response. If everything checks out, the tax office will be sending you a copy of your updated NIF document that shows your new address.
