What documents do I need to submit to get a NISS if I’m self-employed?

As a self-employed individual, the Social Security office needs to verify your self-employment activity to issue a NISS. Please ensure you provide the following documents:

  1. Document Attesting to Self-Employment Activity:
    • Comprovativo da Declaração de Início de Atividade (Proof of Declaration of Start of Activity) from the Portal das Finanças

  1. Copy of Receipts and Invoices:
    • Proof of issued receipts and invoices to your clients
Invoice
Receipt

If you're unable to provide all of the required documents, we won’t be able to submit your NISS application, as the Social Security office requires complete documentation to process it.

**Please note that NISS applications will be reviewed by the Social Security office on a case-by-case basis.
