What kind of proof of employment status do I need to submit for my NISS application?

Social Security requires individuals to provide proof of their employment status as part of the NISS application.

⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTE: You must be employed by a company that is legally registered in Portugal or have registered self-employment activity in Portugal for your NISS application to be approved.

Employed

You must provide one of the following:

• Complete and signed employment contract
• Employment letter

Self-employed

You must provide all of the following:

• Copy of the document attesting to the self-employment activity (Comprovativo da Declaração de Início de Atividade)
• Copy of receipts and invoices
